random thoughts from last night

You know what I realized after this weekend, my birthday weekend? I learned that my friends kind of suck. But thinking about it, it expands beyond my friends to my age group in general. You know, the 18-22 age group roaming around here. My age group kind of sucks. Everyone is selfish and self-absorbed. All of these article on sites like Buzzfeed, elite daily, and whatever else we can find on the Internet nowadays are constantly telling those of us "twenty-somethings" that this is the time to be selfish and worry about ourselves. We shouldn't worry about others or committing ourselves down to one person. We should be living the time of our lives! The problem with these ridiculous articles is the fact that they're not taking into consideration the fact that we are already so self absorbed that if we're told that its ok to be that way there's no hope for our generations humanity. There will be no boundary between a "twenty something" who is living their young life to the fullest and a young adult who will remain immature, selfish, and ignorant from the lack of growth that should've been experienced at this malleable age.
14-18 is learning about the corrupt world we're in, but 18-22 is when you're old enough to know better but choose to go against it. It's the age where we are supposed to be learning to take responsibilities for our actions, not blaming them on our unknowing "twenty something" bodies. What we are creating instead are isolated nomads wandering through space without cause and without worry because our nomadic state isn't recognizable to us anymore. We are gladly digging ourselves into bigger holes without realization due to the technology of our time and the shallow gratification we feel from brief chance encounters with others. But because they are not fully satisfying we find ourselves alone, lonely, and empty inside. Yearning for that thing that will make us feel whole and complete. Little do we realize all it takes is a self awareness of those outside of ourselves. To put down the phones and maybe think about what's going on that might not have anything to do with you. To make conversation without always bringing the topic back to yourself. Or hell, to just have a conversation where you are really listening to the person. Real conversation with real thoughts, real beliefs, and where real emotion can be expressed. Conversation that we can learn to grow from. That would be a really nice change of pace to have.

first post: disclaimer

This blog was conjured up in my mind last night whilst laying in my bed wide awake at about 1:30 in the morning. I anticipate that the majority of the posts I will be posting will come from this type of scene. This is meant to be a creative outlet of my inner-most thoughts about my generation, specifically the age of the "twenty-something" that I notice is becoming a new fad. As a "twenty-something" myself, and a college student who is constantly surrounded by this age group I have formed a lot of opinions about what I see daily and thought I would like to share that here.
